Big Hart Farm Internship Opportunity

Big Hart Farm LLC, located in Hart County, is a thriving specialty crop farm known for its vibrant flowers, pumpkin patch, and unique community events. We are excited to announce paid internship opportunities for both high school and college students during the Spring 2025 (March 5th-July 5th) and Fall 2025 (July 2nd-November 8th). Each semester, we will accept two college and two high school interns to join our team and gain hands-on experience in the exciting world of specialty farming.  

About Big Hart Farm  

Big Hart Farm is more than a farm—we're a place where the community gathers to experience the beauty and joy of agriculture. Our operations include:  

**Flower farming:** Offering beautiful blooms through you-pick flower events and wholesale opportunities.  

**Pumpkin patch:** Growing unique pumpkin varieties and hosting engaging seasonal activities such as carving and painting stations.  

**Educational experiences:** Sharing knowledge about plant life cycles, sustainable practices, and agribusiness during guided tours and events.  

**Community events:** Hosting special occasions like butterfly releases, sunset you-pick evenings, and free teacher appreciation days.  

In addition to on-farm learning, interns will have opportunities to engage with the **Hart County Botanical Gardens**, gaining a broader understanding of horticulture and community-focused projects.  

Internship Details

Internship Responsibilities and Opportunities

As an intern at Big Hart Farm, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and participate in various aspects of our farm operations, including:  

- **Crop care:** Planting, maintaining, and harvesting flowers, pumpkins, and other specialty crops.

- **Wholesale operations:** Gaining insight into the logistics of providing flowers to local businesses and community groups.  

- **Event preparation and execution:** Assisting with planning and facilitating farm events, interacting with the community, and creating memorable experiences for visitors.  

- **Sustainable farming practices:** Learning about and implementing eco-friendly and efficient farming methods.  

- **Community engagement:** Contributing to projects and programs with the Hart County Botanical Gardens, expanding your knowledge and experience beyond the farm.  

Skills You’ll Gain  

- Hands-on agricultural and horticultural experience.  

- Event planning and customer interaction skills.  

- Knowledge of specialty crop production, sustainable practices, and community-focused initiatives.

Requirements  

- **High school interns:** Must be 16 years or older.  

- **College interns:** Must be actively enrolled in a degree program related to agriculture, horticulture, event planning, or a similar field.  

- Enthusiasm for farming, sustainability, and community engagement.  

- Ability to work outdoors and adapt to varying weather conditions.  

Schedule and Compensation  

- Interns will work part-time, with flexible schedules to accommodate school commitments.  

- Interns will be compensated competitively, with opportunities for additional perks, such as farm-fresh flowers and produce.
